The Right Wear Part Is More Important Than the Longest-Lasting Wear Part

Crusher wear parts are sometimes purchased with one question in mind:
“Which one will last the longest?”
But that isn't necessarily the right question.
On September 18, 2026, new HSI blow-bar options announced by Superior Industries highlighted an important issue for aggregate producers: different combinations of manganese, chrome, ceramic enhancements and heat treatment are needed because the best wear material depends on the feed and operating conditions. Wear life alone doesn't tell the whole story
A highly abrasion-resistant material may perform well in one application but be the wrong choice where impact loads are higher.
When evaluating crusher wear parts, plants should consider:
Feed material and abrasiveness
Impact level
Crusher type and operating conditions
Existing wear pattern
Desired service interval
Cost per tonne — not simply purchase price
The objective is not necessarily to install the hardest casting available.
It is to find the metallurgy and design that provide the best balance between wear life, reliability and cost per tonne.
This is where sourcing flexibility matters
Bourdin Industrial is not tied to a single foundry.
We source crusher replacement and wear parts directly from experienced foundries and manufacturers around the world, allowing us to look for the solution that best matches the application rather than simply offering whatever one manufacturer produces. Our current range covers cone, gyratory and impact crushers as well as screens and other mineral-processing equipment. Bourdin
If a wear part isn't performing as expected, send us the equipment model, part number, drawing, material specification or photos of the wear pattern.
Sometimes the answer isn't simply another replacement part.
It may be a better material for the job.
